We have a chance to send powdered milk to ALL of Cuba’s 22 pediatric hospitals, providing one glass of milk a day to all these children for 3 months!!! Please help us.
In January 2022, Puentes de Amor, The People’s Forum, CODEPINK and the Martin Luther King Center in Havana sent a plane with 16,000 pounds of powdered milk to the pediatric hospital in Havana. This donation was so appreciated that we now want to send enough milk to cover all the children’s hospitals.
It is the dream of Cuban-American high school teacher and peacemaker Carlos Lazo, the founder of Puentes de Amor (Bridges of Love), to raise $150,000 to buy 40,000 pounds of powered milk and ship it to Havana to distribute it to the children’s hospitals in all the provinces. “That is a lot of money for us to raise,” says Carlos, “but we believe in the ‘fábrica de sueños’--the factory of dreams. I know we can do it because we have support from people of goodwill all over the world.”
Already groups from Belgium to Italy to Panama have pledged to help. So have the people who participate in the monthly friendship caravans, including in Miami. This will truly be an international effort.
Why is there a shortage of milk? Normally, milk is given out by the government–for free–to children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with medical needs. But the treacherous sanctions imposed by Trump and strengthened by Biden, along with the pandemic that shut down Cuba’s tourism industry, has led to shortages of everything–especially milk. The government has little money in its coffers, and because U.S. companies and banks are fearful of running afoul of the U.S. blockade, Cuba is forced to import milk–at inflated costs–from places as far away as New Zealand and Uruguay.
We are relying on your generosity to make this “fábrica de sueños” come true. Your gift will not only help the children of Cuba, it will also show your rejection of a U.S. government policy aimed at strangling the Cuban economy and causing hardships for its people.
We call on people of goodwill all over the world, including Cubans living abroad, to show their solidarity with the hospitalized children of Cuba. We can’t let sanctions and hatred prevail; we must build bridges of love.

En enero de 2022, Puentes de Amor, The People's Forum, CODEPINK y el Centro Martin Luther King de La Habana enviaron un avión con 16.000 libras de leche en polvo al hospital pediátrico de La Habana. Esta donación fue tan apreciada que ahora queremos enviar suficiente leche para que llegue a todos los hospitales infantiles.
El sueño del profesor de secundaria y constructor de paz cubano-americano Carlos Lazo, fundador de Puentes de Amor, es recaudar 150.000 dólares para comprar 40.000 libras de leche en polvo y enviarlas a La Habana para distribuirlas en los hospitales pediátricos de todas las provincias. "Es mucho dinero para nosotros", dice Carlos, "pero creemos en la fábrica de sueños. Sé que podemos hacerlo porque contamos con el apoyo de personas de buena voluntad de todo el mundo."
Ya se han comprometido a ayudar grupos de Bélgica, Italia y Panamá. También lo han hecho las personas que participan en las caravanas mensuales de amistad con Cuba, incluso en Miami. Este será realmente un esfuerzo internacional.
¿Por qué hay escasez de leche? Normalmente, el gobierno cubano reparte la leche -de forma gratuita- a niños, mujeres embarazadas, ancianos y personas con necesidades médicas. Pero las terribles sanciones impuestas por Trump y reforzadas por Biden, junto a la pandemia que cerró la industria turística de Cuba, han provocado escasez de todos los rubros, especialmente la leche. El gobierno tiene poco dinero en sus arcas, y debido a que las empresas y los bancos estadounidenses temen infringir el bloqueo a Cuba, Cuba se ve obligada a importar leche -a costos inflados- de lugares tan lejanos como Nueva Zelanda y Uruguay.
Confiamos en su generosidad para hacer realidad esta "fábrica de sueños". Su donación no sólo ayudará a los niños de Cuba, sino que también mostrará su rechazo a la política del gobierno de EE.UU. dirigida a estrangular la economía cubana y a causar dificultades a su pueblo.
Hacemos un llamado a las personas de buena voluntad de todo el mundo, incluidos los cubanos que viven en el extranjero, para que muestren su solidaridad con los niños hospitalizados de Cuba. No podemos dejar que las sanciones y el odio prevalezcan; debemos construir puentes de amor.
